So, by a while, I guess I meant a few years.
Probably would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the other kid.
I just couldn't help it, Mom-
...
I mean, Toriel is just so pleasant to be around, I just couldn't bring myself to leave without her. We had a nice routine: every morning (?) she would go to the same spot where she found me to check for any other fallen children. Then she'd return and we'd go for a brief walk with Dusty. Sometimes it'd just be through the ruins, to catch bugs or test my knowledge on the puzzles there (it took her a long time before she allowed me to solve them myself), sometimes it'd be a short visit to the capital. It was surprisingly crowded with monsters there, but then again, I hadn't seen an exit at that point, so... I thought that was all the Underground back then.
Um, after that, Toriel and I would head back home, where she'd teach me about snails and the history between humans and monsters, and that sort of stuff. I even helped her cook a bit. The snail pie came out surprisingly well, I think!
It was nice, if a bit dull, but I enjoyed the time I spent with Mom.
And then another child fell.
I actually didn't find out about them until Toriel came home with them. Turns out she was planning to make a pie for them as well, but ran into similar shenanigans involving that dog from earlier. The new kid was awfully quiet, they seemed really nice, and to be honest I was really looking forward to having a bit of a small family with them and Mom.
That was until they asked Toriel how to leave the ruins.
She went downstairs - something I've never seen her do before, aside from the very first few times I attempted to explore down there - and surprisingly the new kid followed her.
There was a door. A door to the rest of the Underground I didn't even know existed.
And Toriel was going to destroy it. And then...
She and the kid fought.
I never could have excepted this to ever happen. Here I was expecting the kid to be just as charmed with Mom as I was, and not even a day later they were already trying to leave. Maybe they had places to go, but...
Even so, it made Toriel use her own fire magic, and not just for cooking. She really was trying to push the kid back into the house.
Yet they were determined to leave.
But they didn't fight back. They just dodged the attacks and stood their ground.
Eventually, Toriel couldn't bring herself to keep the kid there. I remember what she said still...
Mom and the kid shared a hug, and she walked away from the door. I hesitated, and followed her. I wasn't sure what to do, so I walked with her all the way to the golden flower patch. And.. I asked her what I could do to help.
*Do not worry about me, my child.
*Someone's got to take care of these flowers.
... It took a bit of thinking, but I decided to follow the kid through the door. Not only did I want to know what else the Underground had to offer, but I wanted to keep an eye on them. Toriel would've wanted to know someone was making sure someone was keeping an eye out for them. I left a note, and...
I found myself among snow.
I have to find the kid quickly.
